Arthritis Support
At Recharge Danvers, we support joint comfort and mobility through modalities that promote circulation and reduce stiffness. PEMF in our Pulse Studio delivers electromagnetic pulses that support joint-level recovery. Our Red/IR Light Blanket and Infrared Sauna Wrap provide deep warmth that helps loosen stiff joints. Lymphatic Drainage Massage supports fluid movement around affected areas. For ONE PASS members, Contrast Therapy, alternating sauna heat with cold plunge, is highly effective for joint stiffness. These modalities are wellness support, not a substitute for medical care.
Arthritis is not one thing, and the difference matters for what helps. Osteoarthritis is wear in the joint surface and is the common one after fifty. Inflammatory arthritis, including rheumatoid, is an immune process and is managed medically. What follows describes support for comfort and mobility, mostly relevant to the first kind, and always alongside whatever your doctor has in place.
The pattern most people describe is stiffness that is worst first thing and after sitting, joints that ache more in some weather, and a slow retreat from activities that used to be automatic. That retreat is the part worth resisting, because the muscles around a joint are what protect it.
We are a place to make movement more comfortable, not a treatment for the disease.
The single most common thing members come in for, and where warmth does its clearest work.
The goal is not to stop moving to protect a joint. It is to keep moving so the joint keeps its support.
Flare-ups happen. Having somewhere to go changes how they are endured.
Aching joints interrupt sleep, and poor sleep raises pain sensitivity. Members often address the evening deliberately.
- Heat for stiffness, with the evidence stated accurately. A Cochrane review of thermotherapy for osteoarthritis found effects on stiffness and range of motion, and was clear that effects on pain were less consistent. Warmth is a good tool for a stiff joint and a modest one for a painful one, and we would rather be precise about which.
- Exercise is the best-supported intervention, and adherence is the obstacle. Systematic reviews of exercise interventions for hip and knee osteoarthritis consistently find benefit, and consistently identify adherence as the limiting factor. Anything that makes movement more comfortable, or that gives it a place in the week, is working on the real bottleneck.
- The muscles around the joint carry load the joint cannot. Quadriceps support for a knee, hip stabilisers for a hip. Muscle stimulation and targeted massage support that tissue when pain has made loading it difficult.
- Circulation and swelling. Joints that swell through the day are often more uncomfortable in the evening. Compression and lymphatic work address the fluid rather than the joint, which is comfort rather than structural change.
Warmth and gentle movement. Consistency matters more than intensity.
Add muscle work as comfort allows.
Most members treat this as ongoing upkeep rather than a course.
Warmth through the affected joints first, then gentle muscle work, finishing with compression where swelling is part of the picture.

Inflammatory arthritis in particular changes what is appropriate, especially around heat during a flare.
- ·A diagnosis of rheumatoid or other inflammatory arthritis, especially during a flare
- ·A joint that is suddenly hot, swollen, or red, which can indicate infection and needs urgent assessment
- ·Immunosuppressant or biologic medication
- ·A joint replacement or recent joint surgery
- ·Reduced sensation in the area, which changes how heat is applied
- ·A history of blood clots, or current anticoagulant medication
- ·Osteoporosis, which affects what pressure is appropriate
