Calm Brain Stimulation

Gentle current. Settled mind.

CES is FDA-cleared for anxiety. Members often describe a settled, less-reactive feeling that holds for hours after a session.

What it is

Calm Brain Stimulation is Recharge's Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation (CES) session, a small, FDA-cleared device that delivers a gentle, low-amperage microcurrent through soft ear-clip electrodes. The current is so subtle that most members feel nothing at all; a few notice a light tingle for the first minute and then forget it's there. CES has been FDA-cleared for the treatment of anxiety, depression, and insomnia.

Sessions run 20–30 minutes in a reclined, quiet setting. You can close your eyes, read, or pair it with a session in the Sound Studio, many members use the time to come down from a hard day or prime themselves for better sleep tonight. Walk in, clip on, settle in. Walk out a little quieter inside.

What members come for
Anxiety relief

CES is FDA-cleared for anxiety. Members often describe a settled, less-reactive feeling that holds for hours after a session.

Better sleep

FDA-cleared for insomnia. An evening session can shorten time-to-sleep and support deeper rest the same night.

Clearer focus

When the background noise of anxiety quiets, attention sharpens, useful before a meeting, a study block, or a long drive.

Mood support

FDA-cleared for depression as an adjunct. A consistent cadence is associated with steadier mood between sessions.

Why it works
  • Modulates the autonomic state. CES delivers microcurrent across the cranial region in a way that is associated with shifts toward parasympathetic ("rest-and-digest") tone, the same nervous-system state that supports calm and sleep onset.
  • FDA-cleared, not experimental. The FDA classifies CES devices for the treatment of insomnia, depression, and anxiety. This is a long-established clinical category, not a novel wellness gadget.
  • Controlled trials support the use case. Randomized and real-world CES studies report modest-to-meaningful effects on anxiety and insomnia, with a favorable safety profile and minimal side effects compared to medication-based approaches.
  • It stacks well with what you already do. CES is non-pharmacological and works alongside therapy, sleep hygiene, exercise, and other Recharge modalities like the Sound Studio or Calm Brain Light Helmet, without the grogginess of a sedative.
How often
First Few Weeks
3–5× per week

Most CES protocols stack sessions early so the nervous system has a chance to settle into a new baseline.

Maintenance
2–3× per week

Once you feel the shift, drop back to a steady weekly rhythm and adjust by how you're sleeping and how you feel.

As Needed
20–30 minutes

Before a high-stress event, a tough sleep night, or a long week, a single session takes the edge off.

Approach with care if you have:
